This is general laboratory good practice for lyophilised (freeze-dried) peptides. Always follow your institution’s procedures and any data sheet supplied for the specific material.
01 · ON ARRIVAL
Check and record
Check that the vial is sealed and the label is legible, and that the batch number matches your paperwork. Record the date of receipt. If anything looks damaged, photograph it and contact us at info@hlpeptides.co.uk.
02 · TEMPERATURE
Keep it cold and dry
Lyophilised peptides are generally more stable cold and dry. Common practice is to keep unopened vials at 2–8 °C for short-term storage and at −20 °C for longer-term storage. Avoid leaving vials at room temperature for extended periods.
03 · LIGHT
Store in the dark
Store vials in the dark or in an opaque container. Some peptides are sensitive to light, and prolonged exposure is best avoided.
04 · MOISTURE
Keep vials closed
Lyophilised powders can absorb moisture from the air, which can shorten shelf life. Keep vials tightly closed and stored with a desiccant where practical. Before opening a vial that has been stored cold, allow it to reach room temperature while still sealed, so condensation does not form on the contents.
05 · FREEZE–THAW
Avoid repeated cycles
Repeated freezing and thawing can degrade peptides. Plan work so that material is removed from cold storage as few times as possible. Solutions are generally less stable than the dry powder, so prepare only what you need, using your own validated procedure.
06 · LABELLING
Label everything
Label every container, including any secondary containers, with the product name, batch number, date received and date opened. Never rely on a vial’s position in a freezer to identify it.
07 · RECORDS
Keep a batch log
Keep a simple log for each batch: date received, storage location, dates removed from storage, and the matching certificate of analysis. Good records make results easier to reproduce and problems easier to trace.
08 · DISPOSAL
Dispose responsibly
Dispose of materials and empty vials in line with your laboratory’s waste procedures and local regulations.
